A small beauty touch-up kit is a must for a bride on her big day. Your makeup artist and hair stylist should be taking all of the necessary steps to ensure that their work lasts all night long, but with a night filled with dancing, sweating, laughing, crying and lots of kissing, you’re bound to have small movement in your hair and makeup.
So what do you do? If it’s in your budget to hire your makeup-artist and hairstylist to stay throughout the wedding for touch-ups, I always recommend that. This way, whenever you and your bridesmaids need a piece of hair tucked back into place, or a touch-up on your face to keep your makeup looking fresh, someone is right there to help you out. (It also is a great treat for you and your girls, to have a beauty team on hand all night just to make sure that you stay looking your best). However, if keeping the pros on hand all night isn’t in your budget, I have put together a list of 10 beauty essentials to add to your wedding day clutch, for those quick spruce-ups.
#1 Bobby Pins: In the case that the wind picks up and a hair flies out of your updo, bobby pins will save you from those stubborn stragglers. Be sure to see the type of bobby pins your hair stylists uses on you at your trial, buy the same kind and color to ensure consistency.
#2 Mini Hairspray: The perfect companion to your bobby pins. If your style starts moving, put everything back into place with your bobby pins, and secure it with your hairspray. Even if you Don’t have your hair up, hairspray can be great for a quick spritz halfway through the night to ensure that your curls stay put.
#3 Lipstick: Sometimes, even a liquid lipstick wears down after all of the kissing on your wedding day, so having a touchup on hand is always a good idea. Between the kissing, eating and drinking, you want to make sure that your lips are always camera ready. Ask your makeup artist what color she used on you at your trial, and have the color in your clutch so that you have a perfect match.
#4 Blotting Wipes: This is an essential for all my oily girls. Your makeup artist should be taking your skin type into consideration, and using products to keep you matte all night long; but with all the dancing and grooving on your wedding day, sometimes that sweat and oil is determined to make an appearance. Keep it at bay with blotting wipes. Make sure that you BLOT, don’t wipe, and kick that oil to the curb while keeping your makeup looking fresh.
#5 Q-Tips: You’re makeup artist should be using waterproof eye products, but in the case you get a few small smudges, these are a lifesaver! Use q-tips to clean up under your lower lash line in the case that your happy tears get the best of you.
#6 Tissues: Because no one wants to walk down the aisle with a runny nose! Be sure to have tissues close by for a quick check right before you walk down the aisle, as well as after the ceremony for a quick fix before you take pictures. I always suggest for the MOH to hide some tissues in her hand around her bouquet, so that she has something to help you out when the water works start flowin’.
#7 Mini Perfume: With all of the dancing you’ll be doing, it’s important to to stay fresh. Whatever your sent of choice is for your wedding day, be sure to purchase it in a mini bottle too for a quick spritz throughout the night.
#8 Straw: Don’t let your morning mimosas ruin your lipstick before you even see your groom. A straw is a must to prevent ruining your makeup or spilling on your dress. There are so many cute paper straws out there, be sure to purchase one to match your morning attire, so that it blends in well for your getting ready pictures.
#9 Powder: As I said earlier, if you have oily skin, be sure to let your artist know, this way they can use proper products to keep you matte all night. But in the case of a little shine, if blotting sheets just don’t do it for you, a little powder can be your best friend. For space purposes, pack a mini container of translucent powder with a small latex sponge. When you start to see unwanted shine, just take a small amount of the powder on the sponge, and lightly blot your t-zone. Be sure to ask your artist for recommendations on powders that won’t cause flashback. I personally love the Laura Mercier Translucent Powder, and the RCMA No Color Powder.
#10 Small Lotion: Small details such as dry hands or dehydrated arms (and legs if you or your bridesmaids have on a short dress) can tend to be overlooked. Pack a small tube of lotion with you to make sure that your skin looks dewy and hydrated all day. Bonus: lotioned skin will make you look like you are GLOWING in your pictures.
